Huell Howser: Enthusiastic, optimistic, energetic, authentic.

Everything I aspire to be as a storyteller.

When I saw the GoFundMe to get Huell a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, I knew I had to do my part to make it happen. I pitched the story, got an interview with Kay Fairhurst Adkins, and posted it to social media. The next morning, we did the story with 10 live shots.

From 2001 to 2010, Howser shot 34 episodes of California Gold in Palm Springs, the city where he chose to spend his final days in 2013.

The page blew up. Within a couple days, the public raised more than $10,000 to get Huell a star he so deserves.

The extra money went to this fantastic ceremony and star reveal in his honor.

I spoke about his impact on journalism, and journalism's impact on getting him that star -- the 388th on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

You truly are California Gold, Huell Howser.

My mom and I waiting for the reveal!
Here's the star! It's also 103 degrees.
Cupcakes and flowers to celebrate.

Speaking about the impact Huell had on journalism.

Huell's photographer, Louis.

My photographer, Christopher Flicker!

Huge crowd! Not even half of it.
